Chandanamazha is a family drama from the hit maker team of one of the best serials Kumkumapoovu. The serial revolves around the story of a young orphan girl Amrutha. Her parents died when she was young and now lives with her Uncle ( Father,'s elder brother), Vasudev. He is a soft-spoken person, but his wife Mayawati and daughter Varsha are very selfish and rude. They keep hatred to Amrutha and often are very offensive in behavior. Amrutha being a polite girl have no complaints and suffers all these with silent tears. Vasudev is very compassionate to Amrutha, but as he is not bold enough to take precedence with his wife's words. Oormila Devi is a very proud lady, who is the head of one of the most leading business group called Desai Group. She is a very stubborn lady and pays no attention to anyone's word. Desais is a large and rich family. Arjun is her son and the chief of many of their business. Their family is a joint family, which includes, Oormila Devi's husband, his brother and family and their mother. Arjun has a sister too. Oormila Devi is a very stringent about her policies and principles. The story begins when Oormila Devi decides to get her son Arjun married. She doesn't consult with anyone on this decision. She wishes to get him married to a Malayali girl from a Desai family. Mayawati and Varsha get excited over this as Desai is a minority community in Kerala and they belong to that. However, Oormila Devi who comes to see Varsha is impressed with Amrutha and decides to choose her as her would be daughter in law. However Arjun doesn't agree with his mother's decision and the story progresses on the future happenings in Amrutha's life and Desai family.
